Disappointed….

Ok I’m a little disappointed with the recordings since I listened back to them this morning on my trusty ear-pod.

I believe this to be down to the fact that I mixed the tracks with some crappy speakers that are connected to my computer.  When listening back to the tracks via these speakers they sound absolutely fine, but obviously the speakers are colouring the audio a little too much.

Looks like I may have to invest in some monitor speakers, as these give a complete linear response. Cheaper the better obviously so if anyone finds any let me know, otherwise I’ll probably get these

I think its more down to the method of recording rather than the mixing of it. I doubt we will ever get a decent recording without the right equipment.

One good thing that did come out of these is we can tell when people make mistakes, so at least we can zero in on those parts and focus on ironing them out and we need to stop speeding up ;-)

Yeah I agree about the whole mistakes thing, and I’ll hopefully get a metro-gnome sorted out for this weeks rehearsal. Gonna have to disagree with you about the whole recording/mixing thing though as the recordings do sound a lot better played from my PC than they do through my earpod and its down to the difference’s in frequency responses on the speakers.

Still overall they worked out quite good, and I’m looking forward to Thursday so we can try again :)

Guess it doesn’t hurt to try, I just don’t see how you can transform a crappy recording into a decent sounding song.

Cause as I said the recording itself isn’t particularly crappy. (When you discount the mistakes etc) The mix sounds fine on my speakers at home.
Mixing is an art form in itself so the mixes will get better the more practice I get :)
